Summary
A sabicu, ebony, walnut, brass inlaid and brass mounted commode, French, circa 1730 The rectangular top inlaid with a geometric strap work design centered by a diamond and with a brass cast edge. The three long serpentine drawers each with a panel of ebony and brass strung panels mounted with floral castings with female masks and centered by escutcheons with female masks and ribbons. The shaped apron and canted corners with further mounts and brass stringing. The sides with ebony banded panels centered by brass cast female masks within floral and scroll motifs.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. The house and contents were acquired through the National Land Fund and transferred to the National Trust in 1956.
