Summary
A mahogany, amaranth, campan rouge marble and ormolu mounted bow-front commode, French circa 1725 The red marble top with moulded edge above two short and two long drawers inlaid with geometric trellis designs and brass banding. The corners of the drawers with cast brass ribbon rosettes and escutcheons with female masks and floral cast drop handles. The shaped apron with a further applied cast brass floral scroll motif flanked by brass inset fluted canted corners. The sides with a brass framed panel centred with a brass strung diamond and mount of a classical female figure seated within a scrolled border.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. The house and contents were acquired through the National Land Fund and transferred to the National Trust in 1956.
