Summary
A small settee from a suite of giltwood and associated Aubusson tapestry upholstered seat furniture, by Jean-Baptiste Lerouge, Paris, circa 1760 Comprising of a set of four small settees which can be arranged to form a centre seat or confidente. Each upholstered with tapestry fragments depicting figures within landscapes within a moulded and floral carved giltwood frame with arched back and down swept arms. The shaped overstuffed seat with conforming rail and cabriole legs. Stamped to the under rail 'JME LE ROUGE JME' Little is known about Jean-Baptiste Lerouge other than he was granted La Jurande of the Parisian Menuisier in 1749
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
