Summary
Round Punch Bowl (with high rim), part of Late Qianlong Armorial Dinner Service c.1780. Gilt diaper and feather patterns around rim; crest is an ounce passant sable bezantee ducally collared with chain reflexed over the back or holding a trefoil slipped vert over a baron's coronet; decorated on three sides of the bowl with the Hervey coat of arms impaling Drummond (m.1779) [Hervey - gules, on a bend argent three trefoils slipped vert, a label argent; Drummond - per fess wavy or and gules; Motto 'Je n'oublierai jamais'; decorated in the centre of the bowl with floral design. Coloured. Part of the Hervey Armorial service commissioned and given by Robert Drummond to celebrate the marriage of his sister Elizabeth to John Augustus, Lord Hervey, and showing the arms of Hervey impaling Drummond. Bought by the 3rd Marquess at the sale of John and Elizabeth's grandson, the 6th Lord Howard de Walden.
