Summary
Flintlock military musket (India Pattern), c1820, by William Lacey & Co., London (gunmaker to the Ordnance; active 1787-1815). There are indications that this musket and BRH/A/9 (also by the same maker) comprise of later elements. The lock, basically an India pattern lock is constructed using components of the Baker pattern lock of 1818. The musket is likely to be part of an order to equip a local militia in the 1820s. Barrel: Round iron barrel, the breech with turned mouldings and stamped with London proof marks. Muzzle with bayonet lug. Retained to the stock by 3 barrel pins (the front pin acts as a fixing for a steel sling swivel. Ramrod missing. Length 97.8cm Calibre 18mm. Stock: Walnut three quarter length stock, stamped with the initials WH. Brass furniture comprising; butt-plate, side-plate, trigger guard with steel sling swivel, fore-end cap and 3 ramrod pipes. Lock: Flintlock, the rounded plate engraved William Lacey & Co. London. Cock with reinforced neck. Retained to the stock by 2 side-nails.
