Summary
Oil painting on panel, William Miller Christy (1778 - 1858), British (English) School, circa 1840. A three-quarter length portrait of an elderly man, head turned slightly to the right, gazing to the right, seated in maroon armchair with tasselled drape to right against green background he is wearing a black suit and waistcoat, a white necktie and small black smoking cap. A Quaker, successful Stockport businessman and husband of Ann Fell, he was the founder of the hat-making firm Christy and Co.
