Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Mary Dorothea Whitmore, Mrs Francis Laing (1781-1872), British (English) School, possibly Margaret Sarah Geddes Carpenter (Salisbury 1793 - London 1872), circa 1820-30. A half-length portrait of wife of the Reverend Francis Laing and sister of William Wolryche-Whitmore, seated at a table, facing, gazing at the spectator, leaning slightly to the right holding an open book. Short brown hair with a curl on her forehead, wearing a white dress and pink satin mantle which is draped on the table.
