Oil painting on canvas, The Right Hon. Sir Arthur Nicolson, 11th Bt of Nova Scotia,1st Baron Carnock (1849–1928) by Philip Alexius de Laszlo (1869 – 1937), 1916. A half-length portrait of Sir Arthur Nicolson (1849-1928), who was created the first Lord Carnock when he retired from the Foreign Office and Diplomatic Serivce in 1916. In the portrait he is wearing the badge of the Baronets of Nova Scotia, a Hereditay Order created by King James VI in 1624 and acquired by the Nicolsons in 1629. It is the only Hereditary Order in Britain. The portrait was painted in 1916 by Philip de Laszlo, a Hugarian born artist who became Britain's leading portrait painter during the first decades of the 20th century.
