Summary
A wood-panelled painted cupboard with six fitted drawers on four solid feet, the front pair carved as paws, the doors with low relief painted Chinese figure scenes, flowers, birds, and ornamental sculpture on a green/red ground; the sides painted on red, fitted with heavy iron handles, the interior painted in an Italian style with outdoor figure scenes and animals on a jade ground, lined with a piece of beige linen embroidered with red fruit and flowers, fixed with studs; the drawer fronts decorated with low relief Chinese scenes of figures and animals - in a landscape gilded on a dark blue painted ground. Adapted to take 2 electric bulbs inside - possibly Venetian c. 1750 (note given to Harold Nicolson as a wedding present by Louis Mallet (Sir) Harold's chief in Constantinople).

Given to Harold Nicolson as a wedding present by Louis Mallet (Sir) Harold's chief in Constantinople. This object came to the National Trust with the donation of Sissinghurst by Nigel Nicolson in 1967 and is listed as part of the Chattels Accepted in Lieu of Duty in 1972.
