Summary
An early 18th century cabinet, constructed of Chinese Coromandel lacquer screens (c 1700) the front painted with low relief figures in a landscape about a palace, the sides with panels of birds, flowers and a horse rolling with Chinese inscriptions; the interior now with a shelf, the cabinet fitted with ornate brass hinges, fittings and two carrying handles. Set but not fixed on a fitted lacquered table on 4 cabriole legs, with gold detailing and paw feet.
Provenance
This object came to the National Trust with the donation of Sissinghurst by Nigel Nicolson in 1967 and is listed as part of the Chattels Accepted in Lieu of Duty in 1972.
