Summary
A walnut, tulipwood cross banded and gilt brass mounted writing table, retailed and possibly made by Druce & Co. London, circa 1880 The shaped leather inset top with cross banded edge above a pair of drawers and raised on square section tapered legs carved with scrolled capitals and with gilt brass mounts, brass and ceramic castors. Bearing a paper label to one of the drawers ‘Messers Druce & Co. upholsterers, cabinet makers, and house agents. 68, 69 and 55 Baker Street, Portman Square’ Druce & Co were a London based cabinet makers and sellers of second-hand furniture in Baker Street. They were established in the 1840s and in the Marylebone Trade Directory of 1853 listed themselves as ‘Furnishers, Upholsterers and Upholders for clients of discernment’.
