This painting by Joachim Beuckelaer was bought for Scotney in 1915 by Edward Windsor Hussey. It was hanging in the Chequers pub in Lamberhurst, Edward Windsor bought it for £31 5 shillings.

Provenance
Chequers sale in Dec 1915 ('it had been hanging in the front entrance passage of the Chequers for a great many years, during all my recollection and I believe during all my father's too. Lionel Cust thinks it may very probably be by Peter Aertsen, a Dutch artist 1519-1575. EWH 8/3/16'; purchased and added to the Hussey collection in 1915 for the sum of £31 5s; bequeathed to the National Trust by Mr Christopher Hussey (1899 - 1970), subject to the life interest of his widow
