Summary
A burr oak tip-up centre table, English, circa 1820-1840. The well-figured octagonal top with beaded edge, raised on an extraordinary column which is carved to simulate bark or perhaps a palm tree, with concave-sided platform base, also with beaded edge, standing on lignum vitae castors.
Provenance
Part of the Hussey collection. The contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 2006 by Mrs. Elizabeth Hussey. Most likely introduced into the collection at Scotney by Christopher and Elizabeth Hussey in 1952, bringing it with them from Froyle, Hampshire.
