Summary
A satin-birch, marquetry and parquetry Pembroke table, English, circa 1790. The top of 'butterfly' shape and demonstrating a tour de force of inlay work in English timbers, including yew, beech, cherry, ash, lacewood and birch, some ebonised, the top with fan motifs to each corner ending in a small 'star', the centre with a large oval medallion with scrolling tentacles and a rectangular border of geometric parquetry, the very centre inlaid with the initials 'CH', the friezes of ogee outline and fitted with a drawer and opposing dummy drawer, standing on square tapering legs inset with circular fan motifs and terminating in block feet raised on castors.
Provenance
Part of the Hussey collection. The contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 2006 by Mrs. Elizabeth Hussey.
