Summary
Carved and inlaid oak chest of drawers, English, 1660s, in an earlier Flemish or German style; upper section with a deep drawer front divided into three panels with boldly bevelled inner frames, the centre one in the form of a circle within an octagon, between two upright rectangular ones, the panels inlaid with bog oak, bone and mother-of-pearl and alternating with pilasters of paired split-turning; frieze of three long panels, the outer ones inlaid, alternating with inlaid brackets below dentil moulding; lower section with two cupboard doors concealing drawers; the doors with rectangular inner frames alternating with pilasters and inlaid as upper section; moulded base; shaped bracket feet.
