Full description
Flintlock blunderbuss, c1780, by Edward Bond, London (recorded 1746-90). Plain round brass barrel with a flared muzzle, the breech with turned mouldings. Breech and barrel tang engraved and stamped with London Gunmakers Company proof marks, together with the makers mark, EB under a crown. Retained to the stock by 2 barrel pins. Triangular sprung-bayonet mounted under the barrel with a release catch formed as a second trigger. Wooden ramrod with a brass tip, mounted on left side of fore-stock. Barrel length 36.4cm. Muzzle diameter 30mm. The bayonet length 25cm. Walnut three-quarter stock with a hand-rail form butt, and carved behind the barrel tang. Engraved brass furniture comprising; buttplate, trigger guard (incorporating 2 triggers - the second a bayonet release mechanism), escutcheon and 2 ramrod pipes. Flintlock of flat form, line engraved lockplate, stepped at the tail and signed BOND. Sliding safety bolt behind cock; and fitted with a large frizzen spring anti-friction roller. Retained to the stock by 1 sidenail. Overall length: 74cm
