Full description
Rare combine sword and flintlock pistol, Dutch c1660-70. Round iron barrel of plain form. Retained to the sword blade by 2 screws. Barrel length 18.5cm. Calibre 11mm. Early form flintlock, the rounded cock with decorative volutes, the mechanism mounted on the ricasso of the sword blade which forms the lockplate. The "internal parts" of the mechanism exposed are mounted on the left side - the tumbler in the form of a “helmeted head” and retained with a square nut, the mainspring with decorative hook. The trigger formed as an extension to the sear which extends through into the hilt of the sword close to the grip. The sword blade of triangular form, the hilt bound with two-colour wire. The finger guard formed of delicate pierced iron and decorated with an heraldic shield, animals, birds and military trophies on a foliate ground. The rear quillion turned outwards. Globular pommel. Blade length 88cm. Overall length: 104.5cm
