Officer's sword, 1822 pattern, with gothic hilt; gilt brass hilt of knuckle-guard, outer loop-guard, short rear quillon, incorporating crowned WR symbol; inner ring-guard folds along blade to allow sword to be sheathed; curved back-edged blade marked 'WR IV' 'Johnston, sword cutler, No.68, St,James St.London'; grip of shagreen bound with wire.
