Full description
Flintlock blunderbuss, c1795, by John Bass, London (recorded 1790-95). Round iron barrel with a ringed and flared muzzle. The breech with Birmingham 1813 proof marks and marked LONDON. Retained to the stock by 2 barrel pins. Triangular sprung-bayonet fitted to top of barrel, with release catch on barrel tang. Wooden ramrod with brass tip. Barrel length 35.5cm. Muzzle diameter 35mm. Bayonet length 31cm. Walnut full-stock with engraved brass furniture comprising; buttplate, trigger guard with acorn finial, and 2 ramrod pipes. Engraved flintlock with flat plate, stepped at the tail and signed BASS. The cock a contemporary replacement. The frizzen with an anti-friction roller. Retained to the stock by 2 sidenails. Overall length: 75cm
