Summary
Ring hilt rapier, early seventeenth century in date, probably Italian; symmetrical hilt of quillons with loop knuckle-guard and two branches to lower ring guards; where the branches join the lower rings spring a pair of shell-guards, and four pairs of concentric loops, the outer of which has branches joining the knuckle-guard; rear quillon broken; wire-bound grip; polygonal pommel; long blade, single fuller each side with four Maltese crosses; 'ricasso' stamped each side with a star.
