Full description
Flintlock pistol, c1730, by C. Davisson (unrecorded), English (possibly Ireland). Plain round iron turn-off barrel with slightly flared muzzle, integral to the breech and box-lock. Engraved breech stamped on the underside with Crowned proof marks and engraved beneath the frizzen spring with the makers name C. DAVISSON. Barrel length 13.3cm. Calibre 16mm. Curved walnut grip with carved apron behind the barrel tang. Cast silver furniture (unmarked) comprising; buttcap with grotesque mask, pierced side-plate and escutcheon. Engraved steel trigger guard. Iron boxlock frame and breech with flintlock action, the cock and frizzen mounted on the side. The cock of rounded form; the frizzen spring mounted beneath the pan. There is a small bolt safety catch that slides forward to lock the back of the cock. Overall length: 31cm
