Summary
Bracket spring clock, 18th-century. Jos'h. Cannon, London, and Catherine Sanderson 1774. A George III period bracket clock. Mahogany or walnut case on an oak carcase. The case with a simple bell top with a brass carrying handle, and cross-grained moulded edge. The rectangular glazed door, the dial edged with raised mouldings and the top corners each with a fret, with pink silk behind. The sides with a circular glazed window with a rectangular one below, the top shaped to follow the curve of the circular one above. On a moulded base with plinth and simple moulded feet. Movement - arched silvered dial with calendar aperture, the foliate engraved dial with Arab and Roman numbers. Dial arch 'Jos Cannon' and the dial itself engraved 'Catherine Sanderson 1774'. The 8-day fusee movement with verge escapement and striking on a bell. The back plate engraved with scrolls and a basket of flowers in the centre.
