Summary
George III elongated octagonal satinwood veneered tea caddy, with three panels of marquetry inlaid flowers. Circa 1780-90. Satinwood veneer, ebony and marquetry on a pine carcase. The top with an inlaid oval with marquetry sea shell. The three front panels each with an oval marquetry design of a vase of flowers, probably on what was originally a green harewood background. The edges with chequered stringing and the top with stringing edging. The top hinged and the interior edged with ebony. The interior with the remains of foil lining. The underside of the base with purple velvet. Although having different marquetry designs these two caddies are very similar and it is possible that they could have come from the same workshop.
