Summary
Pastel on paper (oval), Sarah Anne Child, later Countess of Westmorland (1764-1793) as a Shepherdess by Daniel Gardner (1750-1805). A full-length portrait, wearing a pink bodice, a white skirt edged with blue ribbons and a gathered pink topshirt. She was the only child of Robert Child and his wife Sarah Jodrell. She eloped with John Fane, 10th Earl of Westmorland in 1782. Frame: English third quarter 18th century Neoclassical oval frame.
Provenance
Recorded at Middleton Park in 1915; in 1939 in the Breakfast Room and valued at £200; on loan from the Earldom of Jersey Trust.
