Full description
No bills or accounts survive to indicate who made this pole screen, but it is possibly by the cabinet-maker John Linnell (1729-96) of Berkeley Square, London, who is believed to have made most of the furniture in the rooms at Osterley designed by Robert Adam (1728-92) in the 1760s and 1770s. The crudely embroidered design stitched to the pole screen's panel (NT 771785.1) is attributed to Sarah Anne Child (1763-93) the only child of Robert Child (1739-82) and his wife Sarah, owners of Osterley after 1763.
