Summary
Semi-circular pier table. Carved and gilded wood, with painted plaques. The top of inlaid marble. Four straight tapered legs, oblong in section, with shaped block feet. Fluted legs with acanthus capitals, surmounted by ox skulls with husk garlands, linked round the front by three slender, concave stretchers, having a guilloche moulding at the front. The frieze is carved by paterae, below which is a border of pendant anthemion. In the frieze is a central rectangular panel, which has an oval painting of a reclining female figure with a lyre. At either side is a square panel with circular painting, the left-hand one depicts a nude dancing boy with a tambourine, the other a nude seated boy with a pipe. The top, of white marble inlaid with coloured composition, has a border of anthemion in mauve, within which are rosettes, garlands of leaves, ribbons and husks, centering on a fan motif with half-patera, all in various colours. The anthemion border is repeated in the ceiling, also in mauve.
