Summary
Sevres ice cup, tasse a glace, from the de Rohan service with bleu celeste ground of tulip shape with scroll handle and stepped circular foot, the panel painted in coluors with a blue bird on a branch and outlined with a gilt oak garland.
Provenance
This is from the service of 368 pieces made for Louis-Rene-Edouard, Prince de Rohan later Cardinal 1734-1803 probably ordered when he was appointed ambassadeur extraordinaire to Vienna, a post he took up on January 6, 1772. The service cost 20,772 livres. There were 24 tasses a glaces costing 9 livres each delivered on the 18th February 1772 to the Marquis De Champcenetz for the service de Rohan Chateau de Bellerive. Fallot appears to have been the major painter used for painting the birds on this service, parts of which are now scattered through out major museums and collections in Europe and America. Part of the Jersey bequest, March 1993.
