Summary
An engraving of four men fighting in a wood at the foot of a lion statue on a tall plinth. Three women, one of whom has fainted, look on. After an original painting by Philip James de Loutherbourg and engraved by Victor Marie Picot and published by James Birchall, London, 26 July, 1782. A scene from Henry Fielding's book Tom Jones, showing the eponymous character fighting his tutor Mr Thwackum and his rival Master Blifil with support from Mr Western. Western's daughter Sophia faints at the sight of the fight. This copy of the print has been trimmed, but see British Museum 1924,0115.3 for full publishing details.
