Summary
A 30 hour, hour striking longcase clock in oak case, by John Rowning, Newmarket, Suffolk. Two train, posted-frame movement with anchor escapement and count-wheel hour striking, the hammer striking the inside of the bell. Twelve inch brass break-arch dial with urn and scroll spandrels and polished brass chapter ring, having Roman hour numerals and Arabic five minute figures. Signed: "Jno Rowning NEWMARKET" on a disc with an engraved wheatear surround, in the arch, with dolphin spandrels. Trapezoidal-shaped calendar aperture; and seconds dial in the matted dial centre. Steel hands. Oak case with pagoda-top hood having three finials and gilt-wood capped columns and glazed windows to sides. Break-arch top trunk door, and plain rectangular plinth.
