Summary
Print, aquatint, Eastern Gate of the Junmag Musjid at Delhi by Thomas Daniell, RA (Chertsey 1749 – Kensington 1840) and William Daniell RA (Chertsey 1769 - London 1837).One of a set of four aquatint prints by Thomas Daniell (1749-1840) and his nephew William Daniell (1769-1837). Taken from their sketches undertaken during their travels in India (1785-1794), later reworked into watercolours, oils and engravings. These four scenes were included in their published series 'Oriental Scenery'. Set within a gold moulded frame with bead and egg and dart motifs, glazed. Bottom margins with titles cut out and stuck on back of frame. Pink, and set at head of great set of steps below which two elephants walk from right to left, preceded by a pair of horses and with many men running along. Men in howdahs on the elephants. Buildings in distance to left. Label: 'Published as the Act directs by Robert Bowyer at the Historic Gallery, May 1795.'
