Summary
A cheque for sixpence. The showcase caption reads - "These two examples of Rudyard Kipling's work show the value he placed on one and the value placed on the other by his public - In 1898 the school-boy editor at the Boys' School at Horsmonden asked Kipling to contribute an article. The article was sent, with a letter suggesting that the young editor had cheek enough to last him his life and demanded payment for the work -sixpence. Pride -or humour- caused the writer to preserve the cheque."
