Summary
An oak panel-back open armchair, English, circa 1900, in 17th century style. Some elements - the toprail and back panel - 17th century. The toprail carved with the date '1690' above a panel carved with a floral roundel in a lozenge and inside leaf and berry spandrels. The boarded seat between downswept arms and raised on block and elongated ball-turned front legs. With foot stretchers and ball-turned feet.
Provenance
Listed in the inventory taken at Bateman's in 1939 in the Office Wardrobe & Store Room. Bequeathed by Caroline Starr Balestier, Mrs Rudyard Kipling (1862-1939) with Bateman’s and its contents.
