Summary
An oak panel-back open armchair, English, late 19th/early 20th century, in 17th century style. Some elements 17th century. With moulded capping rail above a back panel carved with a floral roundel centring a leafy quatrefoil, within moulded rails. With shaped slightly downswept arms on baluster- and ring-turned arm supports descending to conforming block and turned front legs. The front seat rail With foot stretchers and higher rear stretcher, and on pear-turned front feet.
Provenance
Listed in the Large Hall in the inventory taken at Bateman's in 1939. Bequeathed by Caroline Starr Balestier, Mrs Rudyard Kipling (1862-1939) with Bateman’s and its contents.
