Marks and inscriptions
Front of box: HARVEYS BRISTOL CREAM Sherry Back of box: The badge on this drum is a reproduction of the Coat of Arms of the City and County of Bristol, which was granted its charter by Edward III in 1373, in recognition of its citizens' "good service bestowed on us in times past by their shipping and other things". Among the "other things" wine trading almost certainly took pride of place, Bristol having been a leading centre for wine for many years prior to 1373. This close association between Bristol and wines has been maintained and flourishes to this day.
