Summary
Postcard - Campsall Church. Reverse: Printed in black ink along the left hand edge ' H.G.GLENN & Co. LEEDS'. A Henry Graham Glenn a known photographic artist is said to have worked in Torquay around 1878 and before that in Belfast from 1872 to 1877. H G Glenn was operated by Henry's 2 sons from 1905 to c.1935, primarily printing postcards. Printed in black ink in the centre at the top 'POST CARD.' Underneath and to the left 'THIS SPACE MAY BE USED FOR INLAND CORRESPONDANCE' and to the right 'For ADDRESS ONLY' The present church, a Grade 1 listed building, was established towards the end of the eleventh century and contains features of almost every style of architecture since that time. It is locally reputed that legendary outlaw Robin Hood was married to Maid Marian at this church. Based upon a ballad the theory is founded on the premise that St Mary Magdalene is the only possible church in the area to fit the description, but no firm evidence exists for this supposition.
