Summary
Postcard - Campsall Church. Reverse: Printed in black ink in the centre at the top 'POST CARD' followed by '?9P' Underneath and to the left 'For Communication only this Space may be used.' and to the right 'For Address only.' The present church, a Grade 1 listed building, was established towards the end of the eleventh century and contains features of almost every style of architecture since that time. It is locally reputed that legendary outlaw Robin Hood was married to Maid Marian at this church. Based upon a ballad the theory is founded on the premise that St Mary Magdalene is the only possible church in the area to fit the description, but no firm evidence exists for this supposition.
Provenance
Straw collection bequeathed to The National Trust on the death in 1990 of William Straw.
