Summary
Postcard - Worksop Priory Church, Valentines Series. Printed on rear in red ink top center 'POST CARD. PRINTED IN GREAT BRITAIN.', beneath to the left 'For INLAND Postage only this space may be used for communication.', beneath to the right 'The Address only to be written here'. An olive green 'HALF PENNY' stamp sits in the top right corner with a circular black ink partial Worksop post mark 'WORKSO . 10PM JY'. Handwritten in black ink on the right is the address 'Mr Straw Chestnut Villas Askern Doncaster'. Handwritten in pencil on the left is the message 'Dea Florrie arrived safe around 6-30 luggage at home all safe & all well rested still & all at Worksop well Hettie'. The initial land grant and monies to establish the Augustine Priory of Our Lady & St Cuthbert of Radford were made by William de Lovetot in 1103. In the 14th Century the Tickhill Psalter was produced at the Priory by the then Prior John de Tickhill. The Priory was dissolved on the orders of Henry VIII on November 15, 1539. The property was granted to Francis Talbot, 5th Early of Shrewsbury on the condition that the Earl should provide a glove for the right hand of the sovereign at the coronation, and this tradition continues today.
