Summary
A Pears cardboard soap display box 'tone up before makeup, 6d', handwritten by William Straw Jnr in pencil on top '2 cut glass whisky tumblers, 1 glass sauce bottle (conical) gift of Mrs Beard, Dec 1945'. The box has a lift top with plain card one side and printed on the underneath 'Beauty Rule No1 TONE-UP BEFORE MAKE-UP Pears' ORIGINAL TRANSPARENT SOAP SPECIALLY PREPARED TO TONE UP THE SKIN' in red and black. To the right a full colour picture of the head and shoulders of a blond lady in make up with blusher a rouge and a black band t the top and bottom edge. The front of the box has a cut out section along the top edge with a blur royal crest and 'BY APPOINTMENT' beneath under which in red 'Ton-up before Make-up'. A white sticker to each side of the text carries the price in black '6d A CAKE Inclusive of Tax'. On the left side of the box a gold band to the top and black to the bottom with 'Pears' ' in black and gold edged and in red along the bottom edge 'MANUFACTURED IN GT. BRITAIN. A&F. PEARS LTD. To the right side 'Pears' ' as the left and in red along bottom edge 'ONE DOZEN TABLETS-120'. The bottom of the box is plain brown cards as the top side of the lift top.
