Summary
Marble, The Finding of Moses, with Urania and another Muse, British (English) School, late 18th century. Plaque in high relief showing four classical dressed maidens, one seated on right, an older woman kneeling in the left foreground with an infant in a basket and a globe on a pedestal on the left. The strange juxtaposition of mythological and religious sujbects in this relief scene suggests that it was not a chimneypiece plaque but a trial piece. Chipped.
