Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Henry Colt Arthur Hoare (1888-1917), aged 21 by St George Hare (Limerick 1857 – London 1933), signed, top left: HARE, 1909. Portrait of Henry Colt Arthur Hoare standing almost full-length in an interior leaning next to a window on the right. He holds a cigarette in his right hand and his left hand tucked into his white trousers pocket. Behind him in the background on the left is a palm in a gold vase next to a column. He died on active service in 1917.

Presented on Henry Colt Hoare's 21st birthday by tenants of the Stourhead estate, 1909.Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
