Summary
Oil painting on panel, The Bird Nesters by William Frederick Witherington, RA (London 1785 - London 1865), signed: W.F.Witherington. Two children stand on a sandy path in an open landscape. The older boy, in trousers, waistcoat and jacket and holding a stick in his left hand, shows a bird's nest to a younger boy who wears a white smock and whose back is to the viewer.
Provenance
Acquired by Richard Colt Hoare 2nd Bt (1758 – 1838); given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
