Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Henry Ainslie Hoare, 5th Bt (1824 - 1894) by John Prescott Knight, RA (Stafford 1803 – London 1881) circa 1860. Half-length portrait of the nephew of the 3rd Baronet, Sir Henry Hugh Hoare, standing slightly to the right in front of a wall where the light is coming in from the right as if from a window. He sports a flamboyant moustache, is wearing a black coat and has his right hand on his hip and holds a cane in the left.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
