Oil painting on canvas, Sir Hugh Richard Hoare, 4th Bt (1787 - 1857), British School, mid 19th century. A three-quarter length portrait of a corpulent man, seated in an upholstered red armchair, towards the right, and looking out with a stern expression. He wears a black coat and white waiscoat and his left hand rests on a paper on a table.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
