Summary
Oil painting on panel, Indian Scene of Figures and a Camel at a Well by Thomas Daniell RA (Chertsey 1749 – Kensington 1840), initialled and dated 1804. On the left, a figure dressed in brown stands beside a large camel with his right hand out towards two figures, one male, dressed in white and one female, dressed in red and white sitting on a large round stone well on the right. In the background is an Indian temple.
Provenance
Acquired by Richard Colt Hoare 2nd Bt (1758 – 1838) in 1813.Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
