Summary
A mahogany, ebony and brass adjustable artist's table, London circa 1760 The double hinged top with retractable rests and ratcheted to adjust the angle, able to be a flat surface above various slides and fitted drawers to each end with brass fittings for candlesticks or rests (now missing). The whole rising on an ebony column raised and lowered with a fixed turning handle and retracting into a turned column with three cabriole legs, pad feet and castors.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust along with Stourhead House, its grounds, and the rest of the contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
