Summary
One of a pair of mahogany, satinwood and tulipwood cross banded inlaid demi lune side tables or pier tables, possibly by Haig and Chippendale (fl. 1779-1796), London, circa 1780.The cross banded top with banded edge above an inlaid 'fluted' frieze and raised on square section tapered legs with spade feet.
Provenance
Possibly made in the Chippendale workshops at supplied to Stourhead. Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of the contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
