Summary
Hand-coloured etching and engraving, The Aldobrandini Wedding, Pietro Santi Bartoli (1635-1700) after the antique Roman fresco, 1693, hand-coloured by Jacob van Lint (1723 - 1790) or Hendrik Frans van Lint, Rome, Italy, 1759-1762. Two etched and engraved prints joind and hand-coloured, the backboard pasted with inscriptions cut from the engravings. The original is in the Vatican Museum, Rome.
Provenance
Commissioned by Henry Hoare II, called 'the Magnificent' (1705-1785). Listed in 'The Catalogue or Particulars of the Pictures Prints Statues and other Things' attached to the Stourhead Settlement, 1784, attributed to 'Studio' (see Dodd, 2016) (WSA, 383.715). Thence by descent. Bequeathed by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947), 1946.
