Pastel on paper, Henrietta Anne Hoare later Mrs The Hon. Matthew Fortescue (1765-1841) as an infant Bacchante by William Hoare of Bath, RA (Eye 1707 – Bath 1792). Oval. Half-length, as a child; she wears a pink sash over her left shoulder, and pink ribbon in her hair playing a tambourine. She was the only daughter of Sir Richard Hoare and Frances Acland. She married firstly Sir Thomas Dyke Acland, 9th Bt., in 1785 and, secondly, c.1795, Captain the Hon. Matthew Fortescue, R.N.
