Summary
Pastel on paper, Henry Hoare of Beckenham (1744-1785) by William Hoare of Bath, RA (Eye 1707 – Bath 1792). An oval head-and-shoulders portrait, looking slightly to the right right and down, wearing a dark grey coat white stock, powdered hair. He was the second son of Sir Richard Hoare and Elizabeth Rust, and younger brother of Sir Richard, 1st Baronet; in 1765 he married Mary, daughter of William Hoare of Bath. He was known as 'Fat Harry', or "Sweet-blooded Hal" (see Garrick's poem in Richard Colt Hoare's Pedigrees).
