Summary
Dish, one of a set of six, hard paste porcelain with underglaze blue and famille verte enamels and gilded, China, Qing dynasty (1644-1911), probably Kangxi reign (1661-1722). Chinese Imari ware of fluted form, the central roundel depicting a rough sea with floating shellfish and blossoms, the border comprised of four alternating themes: a still life of precious objects, a gold meander on red, prunus blossoms in underglaze blue, and gold foliage on powder blue. The different themes showcase the virtuosity of the porcelain producer, who used various decorative techniques in different media, for which three kiln firings were needed.
